Mission and objectives of the Competition
The International Competition of Polish Music in Rzeszów promotes the legacy of the nineteenth and twentieth century Polish music which has been forgotten or has been less popular in concert practice. Its objective is to present rediscovered works to the general public and provide this unjustly neglected legacy with appropriate analyses and new editions. The Competition equally endeavours to promote talented musicians who are willing to include lesser-known works written by Polish composers in their concert programmes. The final aim of the Competition is to promote Poland as a meeting place of the international public during artistic events. The Competition is held every other year and its successive editions may feature different sets of musicians and ensembles.
The Competition is organised by the Institute of Music and Dance and co-organised by the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów. The Competition is financially supported by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
The first edition of the International Competition of Polish Music was held between 20 and 27 September 2019. Detailed information about that edition, including the profiles of its prize winners, can be found online at www.konkursmuzykipolskiej.pl.
The second edition of the Competition will be divided into two categories – piano and chamber ensembles. The Competition accepts instrumental musicians applying as soloists or chamber ensembles (from two to twelve musicians). There are no age or citizenship restrictions for the participants.
The participants of the second edition will present works written by 56 Polish composers, who were mostly active in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The auditions for the Competition will take place at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic Hall in Rzeszów between 11 and 18 September 2021.
The prize winners concert combined with an awards ceremony will be held at the Podkarpacka Philharmonic Hall on 18 September 2021. It will be repeated on 20 September 2021 at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw.
The applications for the Competition must be submitted no later than on 14 May 2021. The application forms will appear on the official website of the Competition on 15 September 2020.
At least a month before the date mentioned above, there will be a domestic preliminary round intended for the Polish candidates willing to take part in the Competition. The dates and rules for the preliminary round will be announced at a later date.
The jury of the Competition will consist of distinguished Polish and foreign musical artists and musical personalities. Three main prizes: First Prize – 20 000 euros, Second Prize – 10 000 euros, Third Prize – 5000 euros and three equivalent honourable mentions of 1500 euros will be separately awarded for each category. The musicians will also contest to win special prizes (for best performances of compositions written by Stanisław Moniuszko, Władysław Żeleński and Henryk Pachulski), individual prizes and other additional prizes.
Any and all news and details about the second edition of the Competition, including information on the repertoire, the composers and the sheet music, will appear online at www.konkursmuzykipolskiej.pl in early August 2020.
