The Dance Congress is a cyclical event that seeks to evaluate dance activities and jointly discuss the future of dance in Poland. The upcoming edition of the event will be held under the slogan: Discuss! Create! Act!

I believe that these discussions will foster a creative dialogue between the invited panelists and experts, on the one hand, and the Congress participants, on the other, helping spur the development of solutions and indicating the ways in which the entire dance community should act to implement them. I am deeply convinced that the Congress will also become a compass for the National Institute of Music and Dance, guiding us towards new ventures, says Karol Urbański, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Music and Dance.

One of the overarching goals of the Congress is to enable contributions from the people of dance. With that in mind, a survey was conducted to diagnose the needs of the dance community. Its results helped delineate eight thematic blocks for the Congress. The National Institute of Music and Dance then turned to organizations representing the dance community, as well as institutions supporting the development of dance in Poland, inviting them to delegate their respective representatives to specific panels. In order to let unaffiliated artists take the floor, too, the Institute announced an open call for panelists, who will likewise take part in discussions on the following topics:

  1. Professional education;
  2. Issues related to professional practice;
  3. Dance funding;
  4. Infrastructure;
  5. Relations within the dance community;
  6. Accessibility;
  7. Dissemination of dance;
  8. Audience building and promotion.

You can find more information about the individuals nominated by the dance community and learn more about the Congress program at www.kongrestanca.pl.

The 3rd Dance Congress is organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance. Financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Held in partnership with the Silesian Museum in Katowice.
