In response to the requests submitted by candidates from Poland and abroad, who signalled the need for more time to select competition repertoires and record audio-visual materials for the preselection, the Institute has decided to extend the call for 3rd edition of the competition until February 28, 2023.

The International Polish Music Competition popularizes Polish music of the 19th and 20th centuries around the world. The third edition of the event will be held from July 2 to 9, 2023 at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic Hall in Rzeszów.

The Competition seeks to promote talented musicians who choose to include lesser-known works by Polish composers into their respective repertoires, especially those that have been underperformed by Polish and foreign artists. Recordings made during the event are available on major streaming platforms. The Competition is also intended as a promotion of Poland as a venue for artistic events of worldwide scope. The Competition is held biannually and can be dedicated to various performance lineups.

This coming July, we hope to host musicians from all over the world in Rzeszów. Our goal is not only to popularize Polish music but also promote the artists themselves. We encourage pianists and chamber musicians to learn about the richness of our music and showcase their skills during the Competition, says Lech Dzierżanowski, acting director of the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Competition repertoire

The repertoire includes selected works by 60 Polish composers, including Grażyna Bacewicz, Roman Maciejewski, Henryk Pachulski, Zygmunt Stojowski and Maria Szymanowska. The National Institute of Music and Dance believes that the Competition will help build awareness among international audiences with respect to Polish music, especially that written in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

Competition prizes

Six main prizes will be awarded in each of the two categories of the Competition. In 2023, prizes of €1,000 will be awarded for the performance of a work by one of the following composers: in the Pianists category – Antoni Stolpe, Eugeniusz Pankiewicz (125th death anniversary), Raul Koczalski (75th death anniversary), and in the Chamber Ensembles category – Antoni Stolpe, Witold Maliszewski (150th birth) and Antoni Szalowski (50th death anniversary).

Also awarded in the Competition will be special non-statutory prizes, including concerts at philharmonic, cultural and artistic institutions, as well as media and financial awards and in-kind prizes.

How to apply Competition applications should be submitted via muvac.com, an international platform that brings together cultural institutions and musicians from around the world.
